03 SEPTEMBER 2009 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STAR GOLFERS COME TO PLAYGOLF NORTHWICK PARK
Prestigious Jamega Tour brings some of UK’s top golf professionals to Harrow golf club for year-end climax event in September 2009
Up to 99 of the UK’s top golf pros will converge on Harrow-based golf club Playgolf Northwick Park on Monday 28th September, as The Jamega Pro Golf Tour reaches a climax.
And the club is inviting the public to come and watch the action for free.
The Jamega Skins Tournament event, which starts at 07:30 and runs all day, is a chance for local golfers to see Tour pros tackle Playgolf Northwick Park’s award-winning Majors Course, which was voted the UK’s top 9-hole golf course earlier this year.
The Jamega Pro Golf Tour, which is one of European golf’s key mini-Tours, gives pro golfers a chance to experience Tour golf at over 20 events throughout the year. Competitors in 2009 have included several former European Tour golfers, as well as many up-and-coming talents who are developing their tournament golf skills on the Jamega Tour. Competition is just as intense as in world-ranked Tour events, with the Playgolf Northwick Park event bringing the 2009 season to a climax.
The 28th September Jamega Skins Tournament is open to all golf professionals with no Jamega Tour membership required. Those interested can call Jamega Pro Golf on 07910 562735.
Playgolf Northwick Park offers Jamega Tour competitors a chance to test themselves against the club’s world-class USGA-specification greens, which have been rated by many as among the UK’s best inland putting surfaces.
The 28th September event will see all competitors playing 9 holes on the The Majors Course, with the top four finishers competing at 15:15 in an exciting ‘Skins’ match for a prize worth up to £12,700.
“We are looking forward tremendously to hosting our first Jamega Pro Golf Tour event,” said David Standing, Executive Director at Playgolf Northwick Park. “Our Majors Course has been highly rated by household names such as Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington, so it will be exciting to see some of the UK’s top tour professionals take it on.
“Our greens staff maintain the course in Tour-standard condition all year round, so this will be a great chance for all of those who love Playgolf Northwick Park to see how the Majors Course stands up to examination by highly skilled golfers, many of whom are good enough to play on The European Tour.”
Standing is confident that the golf course’s unique sequence of ‘tribute’ holes will test even Jamega Tour players. “We have nine holes inspired by some of the world’s most famous golf courses, such as the 12th and 16th from Augusta National, the 8th from Royal Troon, and the 12th from Royal Birkdale. Our Jamega Pro Golf Tour guests will find plenty of thrilling golfing challenges out there – just like all of our thousands of guests throughout the year do.”
The event is open to spectators, with the clubhouse open from 06:00 and coffee / breakfast facilities open from 07:00, although Playgolf Northwick Park’s driving range, golf course and practice areas will be closed to all expect Jamega Tour competitors on the day.
